4K video, 4K TV, light stand, sandbag, cable bridges, table tennis balls, 1:54 min
In Boerckel's 1:54 minute video loop, we witness a permanent draw of the most famous lottery game in Germany, “6 out of 49”. A closer look at the draw reveals errors that cannot allow a “hit”. All the numbers drawn on the manipulated balls correspond to the number 50, so the machine not only spits out the impossible in endless processes, but also underlines our permanent desire for luck, coupled with the desire, the probability, the striving for security in an uncertain world. This idea is combined in the installation with industrially manufactured objects such as cable bridges and edge protection, each of which offers a possibility but no guarantee for our perceived desire for protection, safety and security.
