Portfolio reviews are at the heart of every photography festival. They’re where artists, creatives, and experts come together to engage in conversation, network, and gain new inspiration for their own work. So it’s all the more wonderful that, with the support of the Diversity Fund from the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, we can now offer a portfolio review even during the year and in preparation for the upcoming Photoszene Festival!

Would you like to discuss your current work? Do you have questions about the concept, sequencing, or the idea behind an exhibition? Are you interested in meeting curators and experts and making connections? Perhaps you’re currently preparing a new photobook or even planning an exhibition during the next Photoszene Festival?

We’ll connect you with enthusiastic photography experts who, as part of a portfolio review, will take the time to carefully examine your work, engage in conversation with you, listen to your ideas, and offer advice.

Since the last festival edition, we’ve been making a concerted effort to promote diversity-sensitive inclusion. This means breaking down a wide variety of barriers to access and empowering underrepresented groups of artists and visitors. Thanks to funding from the Diversity Fund of the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, we’re able to focus on these target groups in a portfolio review this year. To learn more about who we’re aiming to reach, please read our FAQ.

Connecting with established experts can help increase the visibility of your work and bring new perspectives to the broader art scene. They can offer valuable insights and advice that are crucial for your artistic development. Through one-on-one conversations, artists receive specific feedback that helps them improve and further develop their work and build networks that may be important for future projects and exhibitions. These connections open doors to new opportunities. Connecting with experienced professionals can also give photographers and artists the confidence to share their unique stories and perspectives, which is of great importance for their personal and artistic development.

A diverse spectrum of voices and perspectives enriches the art world as a whole. Supporting artists and photographers who face discrimination contributes to the creation of a more inclusive and diverse art landscape.

Our reviewers bring expertise from curatorial, journalistic, artistic, and academic work in photography and are sensitive to migrant, queer-feminist, and class-based narratives, as well as perspectives on disability.

Thanks to funding, participation in the portfolio review is free of charge. You can find all the information and terms of participation here.
