Wet plate photography, a method from the 19th century, combines light, chemistry and craft to make a magical experience. Direct representations arise for eternity in a complex artisanal process. Applying this historical technique, Matthias Weikamm creates one-of-a-kind rarities of distinct depth. The exhibition displays intensely palpable portraits and invites onlookers to experience the process live – a reminder of the beginnings of photography.
