Historical photographs exude a particular charm. They allow us to travel to past eras, depict city views, and show people who often appear to be living in similar situations. Not entirely, though, of course. Our pictures displace Cologne by about 115 years and so we find ourselves in a city which has not yet been destroyed by the war. Along the way we look into the faces of people whom the older ones among us may well have still encountered. For the most part, previously unpublished shots are on view.
