Dr. Anja Schürmann

Dr. Anja Schürmann is a Permanent Researcher at the Institute for Cultural Studies in Essen (KWI), where she founded and directs the Visual Literacy program. Her research focuses on photography, its theory and institutionalization, and the photobook. Most recently, she co-edited the volume Photography and Its Institutionalizations (Reimer, 2024) with Kathrin Yacavone. She is currently exploring visual vibes and their epistemic implications.
