Artist Meets Archive #5 Bonus Track: Visual Histories of Cologne Pop Journalism – Workshop Performance and Screening A new language emerged within pop-cultural discourse during the 1980s.

Operating outside established media, magazines such as *SPEX*—founded in Cologne in 1980—developed new ways of discussing music and pop culture. Alongside the influential writing of numerous authors, photography played a crucial role in shaping this language—yet its history remains largely unexplored to this day. The "Bonus Track" project takes this gap in knowledge as its starting point: working from the archive of photographer Wolfgang Burat, students track down scattered image collections, speak with contemporary witnesses, and pursue open questions. At the congress, they offer a first glimpse into their artistic-research inquiry—a preview of a visual history that has never been told before.
