Tobias Zielony

Tobias Zielony is a photographer and video artist who explores darkness as a physical, social, and metaphorical phenomenon. His works examine the space between the illuminating moment of an image and the hidden information within it. Zielony studied documentary photography in Newport, Wales, and artistic photography at the HGB Leipzig. In 2015, Zielony represented Germany at the Venice Biennale with his work The Citizen, created in collaboration with refugee activists in Germany and African media outlets. In 2021, he had a retrospective exhibition at the Museum Folkwang in Essen. In 2023, his ninth monograph, Wolfen, was published by Spector Books. Since 2022, Tobias Zielony has been a professor of photography at the HFBK Hamburg.
