Cologne’s central market was a city lifeline. Its long-announced relocation to Köln-Marsdorf is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. The old location has had no future for years now. The signs of decline are unmistakeable: buildings in an advanced state of decay or demolition, remnants of walls, stretches of wasteland. Investment dried up long ago, and improvisation took its place. The photographs were taken in the summer of 2022 and show the results of a personal photographic investigation. A limited artist's book was published to accompany the exhibition.
