Maxi Glas studies fine arts at the HFBK Hamburg. He uses photography, video and photography-based sculptural methods in his work. His current practice is dedicated to two central themes: the construction of concepts of nature and primal states, as well as myths and the history of objectivity. In 2020 he completed a degree in photography at the BTK in Berlin. This was followed by a residency at the FABRICA Research Center in Treviso and several exhibition projects, including at the Darmstädter Tage der Fotografie, the acatech Punkt Scholarship for Technical Journalism (Photography) and the nomination for FUTURES PHOTOGRAPHY by the Triennale der Photographie Hamburg.

On November 6, 2024, significant political events unfold rapidly, with the German Bundestag dissolving the coalition government and seeking to form a new one. In the US, Donald Trump is re-elected president of the United States of America the day before.
Coincidentally, Maxi Glas and his team are in the Bundestag on this day with five slow-motion cameras to film an expert hearing on the topic of CO₂ storage in deep geological layers. Far away from the news ticker, the protagonists consult with each other in a monotonous, structured manner, always following the steady rhythm of a speech timer. Only excerpts and gestures from the proceedings of the session and the participants can be seen. In the background, the monotonous architecture of the hall, the technical equipment of the members of parliament, and other work-related aspects of everyday official life can also be seen.
In Glas Fünfkanal video installation, close-ups reveal a tension between the protagonists in a meticulous observation of the work being done there and an assessment of the striving for a result. Every gesture, every captured expression is concentrated and allows us to read the emotions in such a matter-of-fact world with mindfulness and detail.
