Elena Efeoglou takes a look at selected portraits from the August Sander archive. In particular, she subjects the photographer’s iconic Work People of the 20th Century to closer scrutiny. With the assistance of her own fictional stories and AI-generated images, she devises new imaginative narratives about the portrayed persons’ lives. By tracing the impact of the historical photographs, Efeoglou reflects cross-medially on the narrative potential of photography and Artificial Intelligence.
