'Finsterlay' is the name of an imaginary place in a real world. The volcanic landscape of the Eastern Eifel has been undergoing change due to basalt mining for thousand of years. Marc Hillesheim and Olaf Kaul went off in search of clues to this history, and give it an unusual telling in their images. 'Finsterlay' is a journey through night and time, through bizarre landscapes, down into the interior of the lava flow.
