Bokeum Lee (*1996, Seoul, South Korea) is an artist living in Germany and studying for a Master's degree in Photography Studies and Practice at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. In her series “Somewhere Knitted in Blue”, she combines hand-knitted textiles with cyanotype to make memories not only visible but also tangible. The works move between clarity and blurriness - like the memories themselves, which fade, change or have an intense after-effect. Childhood motifs, family photos and everyday scenes serve as emotional anchors and the feel of the textiles evokes deeply rooted feelings. The series invites us to surrender to the fragility of memories and consciously experience their emotional resonance.

In “somewhere knitted in blue”, Lee deals with memories and feelings in which her own emotionality is addressed. In her artistic exploration, Lee uses the noble photographic printing process of cyanotype, in which the motif is printed onto a carrier layer using an iron solution and under the influence of light. The material she uses is a hand-knitted fabric. In this way, she gives memories not only a visual but also a tactile dimension.
The motifs from childhood, family and everyday life printed on textile oscillate between sharpness and blurriness - similar to memories that fade over time, are evoked by certain events or reverberate (emotionally). The tactile experience through textual materiality is intended to activate and expose deeply rooted feelings. The installation invites visitors to engage with the fragility of memory and to trace their own emotional depths.
